Full-Time Custodian

240 Day Contract

Reports to: Principal and Maintenance Supervisor

Position is open until filled.

 

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Principal and/or Maintenance Supervisor, the Custodian has the primary responsibility for cleaning and maintaining the building. Responsibilities include cleaning all areas of a school campus in such a manner as to promote health and safety while reducing the spread of infection. It is the role of each custodian to follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules. Areas identified for cleaning include, but are not limited to, classrooms, office areas, bathrooms, storage areas, outside areas as needed, and exit/entrance areas. The custodian may also be responsible for performing additional duties not stipulated below as assigned by the Principal and/or Maintenance Supervisor. These additional duties may include general building and grounds maintenance, painting, repairs, laundry, etc.

 

Essential Functions:

Collects and bags all trash from assigned areas, placing the tied bags in a closed dumpster.

Disinfect and clean garbage/trash cans, and change bags daily.

Wet mops all washable floors as directed weekly/daily.

Washes bathroom, office, classroom and other windows (inside and outside) and walls as scheduled or needed.

Sweeps and clears entrance/exit spaces, daily, before and after school.

Dusts, washes and sanitizes other surfaces as specified.

Performs other cleaning duties as specified.

Refills paper towel, tissue, toilet paper, hand sanitizers and hand soap in all dispensers daily.

Changes light bulbs, as needed.

Must have the ability and knowledge necessary to strip and wax tile flooring in a safe and organized manner.   

 

Custodians are to report the following to the Principal, Maintenance Supervisor or designated staff:

All accidents and/or injuries.

Need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance.

Water leaks and other maintenance needs.

All health and safety hazards.

Presence of animals, vermin or insects.

Unauthorized campus visitors.

 

Other Expectations:

Participates in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested.

Attends and participates in school in-service training, as requested.

Performs other duties as specified in job description addendum or as assigned.

Effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.

Ability to lift 25 pounds, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

HS Diploma

Experience in the custodial field is desirable.

Effective oral and written communication skills.
